This year marks the 22nd annual financial markets golf tournament co-hosted by Thomson Reuters and the New Zealand Financial Markets Association. The event attracts participants from around the country each year. The tournament began in 1989 and takes place at the beautiful Wairakei International Golf Course and Bayview Wairakei Resort just north of Taupo. The objective is twofold; first, for all participants to simply mix and have a fun weekend, and secondly, and more importantly, to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis New Zealand during the live auction at the Saturday night black-tie dinner, and the silent auction which runs from Friday night through to Saturday night.
Since its inception, the event has raised substantial sums of money for various charities in New Zealand. The event has proven to be an annual highlight for many people in the corporate world who relish the opportunity, year after year, to mix, form business relationships, enjoy a round of golf at a world class course and contribute to a worthwhile cause.
The attendees of the NZFMA Thomson Reuters Charity Golf Classic come primarily from Thomson Reuters large client base and members of the New Zealand Financial Markets Association, as well as the event's sponsors and invited guests. Many spouses also attend the event. Participants in the tournament in recent years have come from some of the largest corporate organisations such as ANZ National Bank, Bank of New Zealand, Gen-i, HiFX, ICAP, Kiwibank, OMFinancial, Westpac, The Radio Network, Talent2, and many others.
